Youth Advisory Board

Our Mission

​To serve our community by using our voice to make an impact and form connections between youth volunteers.

Our Vision

To collaborate with nonprofits to spread volunteerism throughout the community. ​​​

Our Voice

​YAB meets once a month to get to know each other, build teamwork, leadership skills, and better understand issues facing the Columbia community. ​​

Aaron, Cardinal Newman High School

Aaron is in his sophomore year and is involved in Drama Club, Debate, the bowling team, and Cinema Club. Aaron is also the Vice President representing the Class of 2023. Aaron has been nominated twice for community service awards: once in 2019 for contributing 70 hours of service to his community and again in 2020 for contributing over 150 service hours to his community. Aaron loves participating in YVC community service projects because his community has given him so much and it only seems right to give back.

Apurva, Spring Valley High

Apurva is a junior in the Discovery Magnet Program at Spring Valley High. She is involved in Mu Alpha Theta, SVHS Girls Lacrosse, Circle of Friends, and she is the Director of Publicity for the Environmental Assistance Organization. She enjoys volunteering with YVC because it allows her to gain new experiences and directly influence her society. In her free time, Apurva enjoys diving into the Music and Arts field, performing for the TASC Association, playing sports, and being with friends and family.

Benjamin, Westwood High

​Benjamin is in his freshman year at Westwood High. He is involved in the National Beta Club, DukeTIP, and Johns Hopkins CTY. He is also a member of YVC's International Youth Advisory Board. In his free time, Benjamin enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, reading, learning new languages, and gaming. Benjamin's favorite part of YVC is the impact that volunteer work leaves on the community.

Cadence, EL Wright Middle

Cadence is in eighth grade and is excited for her first year serving on the Youth Advisory Board. She loves volunteering for YVC because she realizes there are so many things in the world that need help and support. Cadence participates in many after-school activities such as French, Drama, and Debate Club. She also works on the Yearbook for the 2020-21 school year. A fun fact about Cadence is that she is passionate about writing and reading.

Hunar, Spring Valley High

Hunar is 14 years old and is currently a freshman at Spring Valley High School. She loves volunteering with YVC because it gives her a chance to experience and learn new things. Hunar loves photography and doing all types of art. In her free time, Hunar enjoys playing soccer. After high school, Hunar hopes to continue studying to become a doctor, specifically a dermatologist.

Jasmine, Spring Valley High

Jasmine loves volunteering with YVC because it gives her the opportunity to give back to her community. Volunteering with YVC allows her to do more hands-on activities where she can develop new skills. Also, it provides the chance to meet other students and make friends who love to volunteer just like she does! At Spring Valley High School, Jasmine is a Varsity cheerleader and a proud member of Key Club. Her other hobbies are shopping, baking, and spending time with friends.

Kennedy, Spring Valley High

Kennedy is a Junior at Spring Valley High. She is involved in Key Club, the American Red Cross Club, and Interact Club. She is also an ambassador for her local Save the Children Action Network club. In her free time, Kennedy enjoys taking care of her dogs, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite part of working with YVC is being able to make a change in her community. She is very excited to continue working with YVC on the Youth Advisory Board. ​

Madison, Spring Valley High

Madison enjoys volunteering at YVC because it allows her to connect with and support great nonprofit organizations that help those in need and make volunteering extremely fun. Madison is a Cadet Leader for her school's  F. I. E. R.C.E. club. She is also an ambassador for the Save the Children Organization and is part of Mock Trail. Madison's hobbies are reading books and cooking with her family. Her favorite thing to cook is pasta ! Madison hopes to one day achieve her dream of becoming an attorney.

Sabrina, EL Wright Middle

​Sabrina is a student at EL Wright Middle School. She loves animals and helping people. She is excited to serve on the Youth Advisory Board so that she can do what she loves and encourage others to join her as she volunteers with YVC.  In her free time, Sabrina loves painting and making art. Sabrina is looking forward to spreading the word about YVC and all of the great service opportunities it provides for youth like her.
